Yes, I've always heard that people trying to get the fastest possible times want those times even to be consistent even if they're not as fast as they possibly can be.

So then who wins on a track: the guy that dials in at 14.00 and runs a 13.6 or the guy that dials in at 18.01 and runs an 18.02 ? If this were bracket racing, the 18 second turd. As has been stated, automatics on the track are for consistency. However, I'm sure you can yield a faster track time with computer controlled aggressive shifting, so long as there's a clutch driving the transmission and not a torque converter robbing power away from it.

But much less fun to drive around in...

Add some slicks, limited slip and a Capaldi final drive for a NA setup and you will be well on your way.

Yeah, I'm sure running around in a 500hp+ zetec running on over 100 octane gas and drag slicks that barely allow you to turn is gonna happen daily. This post is about the fastest drag strip 'tour, not fastest daily driver, and not most consitent 'tour. If you wanted a bracket racer get a kia w/ auto. If you want a daily driver get outta this thread.

BTW, the example was an extreme; it isn't too common for an 18 second car to be put into the same class as a 13 second car

I agree with you ATX situation. for street driving, a MTX is great....but for more consistant times at the track, a ATX is always reconmned. Honestly, if my SVT was being built a purely a drag car for for drag comps, and i had the power,I would opt for putting a ATX level 10 (for starters) for more consistant times.

But since im doing Auto x and road corse events, MTX is well more suted for control of speed and RPMs for me...

Over all i second the ATX for drag cars.

Anybody know if there are one/two speed ATXs? I know all the high powered RWD cars have one or two speed trannies (guy I know has a two speed power glide in his old malibu), but do any companies sell these for FWD applications?
