I have looked through the old postings and couldn't find this exact question. Do you need to do anything other than just installing new plug wires like messing with the looms? Can I just take the new plug wires out of the box and fit? The reason I ask is that everyone on CEG lists having these wires but the Ford dealer says they won't fit 2000 SVT's. What's up with the Ford parts book being different than "most" retailers and CEGers for that matter?
I have a Y2KSVT with stock wires on now. I'm looking to put in 9mm Ford Racing wires.

The looms won't close snug on the wider wires. Some folks dremel the looms. Some file the looms. Some use zip ties to keep the looms shut. There have been a couple folks who claim they got them to fit no problem. Their looms must be bulging though...

Will this affect the performance of the wires? + Is this a novice type of modification? (Is this easy to do?) Is the performance enough to warrant changing the plug wires or should I stick with factory?

no it wont change the performance of the wires. Changing that wires is as easy as changing your underwear, well thats if you have a zetec if not then i dont know. But its something you can do at home. And its worth it too.

The wire loom covers wont really fit over the FMS wires, but the wires fit in the looms so tight you can get away without the covers. My FMS wires lasted about 50K miles and I started noticing some sputtering and low speed misfires. The stock wires don't look as cool, but seem to last longer. Price and performance are about the same from my experience.

Just get Magnecor wires they fit right and last longer. They cost more but are well worth the money.
I personally know of 3 people (1 being me) who had FMS wires nad had replace them in under 40K miles. Some people report that the FMS wires work fine but I have seen more than a few on here who had similar problems I had. I have never seen anyone post saying they had Magencors fail like that so why bother with having to dremel or zip tie or whatever to get fms wires to work? Just my $.02

I agree. My stock wires lasted about 55k, and 7 years, and I replaced with FMS wires because they offered a (possible) slight performance gain over stock, and they were inexpensive. Then I started hearing about all these problems. I'll keep running the FMS, and keep my fingers crossed. At least I won't be surprised if they fail early.
Anyway, stock wires and Magnecores are about the same price, and the Magnecores consistently show gains of a couple of horsepower on most cars. They also have a great warranty. Next time, it's Magnecores for me.
Function before fashion.

The Magnecor's are definitely worth the money.
I know of countless people that have had the FMS set fail very early as well.

I just replaced my stock wires today with the FMS wires and they definatley made a difference. I cant say I felt any increase in performance, but it feels much smoother now. My car only has 36k miles and the stock wires appeared to be in good shape, no corosion etc. although they did feel brittle and unflexable. The previous owner gave me the wires when I bought the car so for shits and giggles I decided to install them.
As expected they did not fit very well in the looms. I squeezed them in the curved ones at the corners with some bulging and zip tied the center one together. It looks very professional, most people would never notice.
