I know that I am supposed to run the power cables in one side of the car and the audio on the other. But is it OK if the cables cross path a couple of times around the amp and the speaker enclosure.

yes its fine as long as they arent bare wires, but being close to each other they invite noise into the rca's

Thanks a lot!!!!!
How about when power cables and speaker cables cross?
I think I can clear the RCA cables but the speaker cables and the power cable will have to cross paths a couple of times.(not bare though)
Thanks again!

Unless it's absolutely impossible you should keep power and signal wires seperate. If they must cross each other I've heard that you can help decrease noise by crossing the wires at 90 degrees. This way there is a very small area where the noise could travel between wires. I'm not sure how well this actually works because I just run wires away from each other. Good Luck.

I think the wire crossing at 90 degree is a little too deep. It will however insure that the smallest amount of wires are touching.

Honestly, I had a competition grade audio system. Wires (audio and power) ran down same side of the car, I used 1/0ga to go to 4 batteries in the trunk. Now the signal was sent throught fiber optics so that could not absorb any possible current. In the back I had 6 amps total, and a huge spagetti mess (not a total mess, wires were secured by zip ties and srewed down) of rca's (mostly Y's for the subs) and 8ga wires powering my amps (each sub amp had 2 8ga pos and neg inputs) I had no Engine whine whatsoever.

I would run the cables down differnt sides, once your there, dont have spagetti but dont worry to much about noise from a few wires. You are better off doing it right the first time but I would not get carried away. And yes speaker wires can pic up noise too.

I have always ran my signal and power cables completely seperate. Then again I always amp my mids and don't believe in deck power. It probably won't hurt if they cross a little bit, but if you can avoid it, do. I spent the extra time because I wanted sound quality!

You should only cross them at 90deg because of the magnetic flux around the power wire can (and often does) creat a whining noise in the system.
