OK, cool then, it IS the alternator going away. Thanks so much for your answer. So now that I know that this is what it is, what's a good price for a replacement ? I haven't shopped for one, who has the best part for the best price. It doesn't necessarily have to be the cheapest, just best value. It seems like it would be as easy to replace the alt as it would be the replace brushes, right ? If I recall the alt on a Zetec is up top, in a fairly accessible place ?
