I've seen the FAQ, and that a newer version of cupholder is available for newer 'tours. I did a search of the forum, but didn't find a good solution for replacing/fixing the early model cup holders...

So, is buying a direct replacement from a wrecker/dealer still the only option?

Anyone tried making/adapting some kind of cup holder that mounts off the console. maybe bolted between the "cavity" and the radio and sticking out towards the passenger side?? Seems to me like about the only place one could mount a sturdy cup holder.

for the curious... dealer just quoted me $129.58 for a replacement cup holder. Says it is an updated number from the original part number, but admitted it's still a flimsy POS.

Ok, so that rules that option out.

My cupholder's been broken for a few years, now, and I only missed it for a little bit. Only time I notice is when I have a picky passenger.

Swaping to the newer console with the update is about your best option!

My brother-in-law owns a pre98 and he said he built a new cupholder out of plywood. From what I understand, you no longer fold it up, it's out permanently. I have not seen it, so I can't comment on it, but it sounded kinda junky to me. However, he builds lots of stuff like that, so it may be really nice.

Doubt if that helps you any, tho... sorry.

Dude - Canadian Tire!! $5 (I think or less)...and it clips into the air vent!

The only downfall is... when you go to flip someone the bird you sometimes hit it when you raise your arm.

OOOOh! - The other advantage to this cup holder is that it holds a cell phone pretty good.... it holds my $1.29 for my Tim's large double double while waiting in the drive thru....my tire gauge clips conveniently to it.... and its a great conversation peice...

Passenger "Hey...what's that?"
Driver "SHUT UP!"

...I really gotta stop drinking alone...

I bought the new cupholder. Instead of two peiced (for an ATX) it's only one. It hasn't broken on me yet and I paid (yes I know it was stupid but DAMMIT I NEEDED A CUPHOLDER) $55. All it is is a peice you pull up and push out to the side. A bezel comes with it too. The pass. seat gets in the way sometimes but it's ok. It doesn't snap up like the old ones.
