Hey all, posted about my blown motor a week ago in my 2000 CSVT. Dealer is looking at it now to try and screw me out of a new engine, even though it's under warranty. Anyway, does anybody know the part number for the new baffled oil pans for our 2.5 liter engines? Since my old one has several large holes thanks to the connecting rods, I want to make sure Ford puts the parts I want back into it. Thanks in advance.

Why do you want the new pan? It holds less oil than the old pan, and the baffles do nothing for you. This will NOT help you if you're installing an older engine - Ford (apparently) corrected the drainage problem in the engine and then decided the bigger pan was no longer necessary - this is not a standalone retrofit modification.

Actually the new oil baffle is a very good upgrade. It is a much better design then the one it replaced. It is well worth the couple bucks to get one.

It's not worth it to buy a new oil pan unless your old one is un-useable. There are no decernable benefits to running the new one. The new style oil pan was put on late model 2001/early 2002 engines. ("Supposedly" before the "fix" to the heads)

According to a reliable source the new oil pan just "looks" like it holds less oil. It has a slightly shallower sump portion, but is offset by having larger kickouts. The thinking behind this is the oil has a better chance of staying in and returning to a wider sump (part where the pickup sits) then a deeper, but narrower one.

Also that means you will likely need a new oil pickup for the new oil pan design. It is highly recommended anyway.

All the part numbers have been posted in the past. (same post too) You can find them using the SEARCH feature. (Just like everything else)

As for the 2.5L getting the extra drain holes like the 3L. We are talking model year 2002 or 2003 engines that were suppose to be the first new head design.
Maybe "someone" knows exactly the date of change over???

DemonSVT-
I could've SWORN you told me a year or so ago NOT to install the oil pan I bought off a GB for the baffled pans here. . .seriously, what's up?

TH said that the shallowness caused whipping and foaming of the oil, hence it was better to run the stock pan without the baffles and the deeper windage tray.

It's just been sitting in my garage, $80 just hanging out. . .I haven't had any problems with oil starvation, 52k and running strong, 6qt's of amsoil every 3k.

You are soft of confusing 2 different things.

There is a new oil baffle/windage tray that everyone can upgrade to. It is well worth the time and effort.

Then there also is the new design oil pan.
"Technically" it could help a little with keeping oil next to the pickup under high rpm situations when cornering. "Technically" - Realistically it's just not going to make a big difference at all.
Not worth updating just for the sake of doing it.

Yes at first it was thought it had a lower capacity because of the shallower sump. However this is not the case.

The part about the shallower sump rising the oil level and increasing the possibility for extra whipping and foaming of the oil does make sense.
Maybe that's also why they have a much better windage tray design now too.
