my pump broke too...
100 000km/60000miles
driving home from downtown, engine overheats,
i stop put ice and water in the coolant,,
put the heating on to let the heat out..
the heating doesn't work!
let it cool and make it to my mechanic..
he tells me its either waterpump or head gaskets?
im thinking waterpump because the rad is cool..
but how can head gaskets create these symptoms?
i hope he's not trying to screw me..

does anybody have pics of waterpumps, metal impellar or not?

Yeah mine broke awhile back. I got one with metal impellers for about 79.00 before tax. Took me about 4 hours of my own time with my dad's help. If he had done it himself it would have taken him probably less than half that. All depends on how much experience you have working on cars.

I think you should do it yourself too. You can get a lifetime warrantied metal impeller water pump from NAPA for $65 and like someone said earlier....it takes no longer than about 2 hours to do (probably a little over an hour). Longest part is waiting for the coolant to drain.

IIRC, there's a picture of a metal impellar WP in the BAT catalog.

My observation reading this post is that it is the 98 and pre 98's that have this occur the most. Anyone with a 99 that has had this happen?

No, I am pretty sure this applies to all the V6 contours but doesn't usually happen until 60k+ miles

The impeller material was changed for the '99 model year, and seems to be much more durable. I have 132,000 miles on my stock waterpump on my '99 Mystique.
