I'm replacing my factory HU with another one but I'm having a problem. This thing won't come out! I've done some searching and can't find what I need. I've got the two "tools" made from coat hangers. When I put them in the deck gets loose, but will not come out! It seems to want to take the trim piece around the HVAC controls with it. I'm thinking about taking off the trip piece, which I don't know how to do, but a friend of mine says the deck should slide right out. Any ideas?

Mine did that also, you have either pushed the tools in too far, or you're not pushing them out enough. Try pushing them both towards the outside of the car more. If that doesn't work get the real tools. They usually work better, and they're $5 or so. You can find them at auto parts stores, or wal-mart.

Here is a Mastersheet to help you.

Also, you do know that if you are replacing a factory CD player, you will need an amp bypass Crutchfield part number 12 70-5008.

The coat hangers work! Just wiggle them a bit while pulling the unit and it will come out.

Beat spending even the $5 for something that you will do once or twice.

Your other solution is to pop the trim off that surrounds it. It goes from the ignition, around the hvac controls and cd player. It's just clipped on, a pair of screw drivers works.

Its by far the dumbest piece of sh!t ford has ever made for now. I took it out three times and the last time taking it out i took a hammer to it cuz i got so pissed. I used the coat hangers the first two times and it was tricky but i got it out. The third time it was so frickin messed up that i cut up my hands doing it. Make sure that both sides are loose and pull it out perfectly even. Both sides lined up as you are pulling out. Works if you push from behind from going under (where the box compartment is).
