Hey I could be wrong but are they using their own satellites or leasing transponder space from ComSat, Loral, or somebody like that?
Interesting. I hope this doesn't go the way of the minidisc and beta. It sucks when a great product is not adopted by the mainstream and gets the axe for it.
I have all these betamax tapes and no player! j/k

I believe you are right. Sirius also has the market on many of the new car manufacturers. Lastly, Sirius will be commercial free with their music channels while XM will have commercials but far less than FM radio. I think that I would go with a Sirius receiver (the new Kenwood's will use Sirius) over XM. They have 3 Satelites over XM's two. I would most likely wait for the standard so you can receive both XM and Sirius (appx 2 years) Originally posted by Mossberg: I thought Sirius already has all three of their satellites in orbit while XM still has to launch their last one of two. ------------------ David Litsky 96 Contour GL Clarion, Infinity, ESX, Alumapro "It is stupid to argue with idiots because you stoop down to their level and they beat you to death with experience" DaveL@drexel.edu

Sirius already have their satellites up, testing and demos happening.
There standard antenna looks like a hockey puck or tear drop. And the special antenna is required to pick up satellite signals.
XM owned by GM are followers. Still waiting on satellites, antenna, etc. Expect XM no earlier than end of this year if not next.
Sirius may be available this summer.
It's great for people with no or poor radio stations and they actually listen to radio.

I get a new deck about once a year. Hopefully Alpine ends up with the better of the two next year. This year I'm going Alpine though. I'm brand loyal. I'm very interested in what develops over the next year though.

Update on Sirus from today's Skyreport:
Sirius Radios to Debut in Fourth Quarter
Executives with Sirius Satellite Radio told Wall Street observers Monday that radios for the service will become available in the fourth quarter.
At one point, the company said it thought it could get radios into the market sometime this summer. The first set of radios that will be delivered later in the year will be built with discrete components, and Panasonic will be the first manufacturer to market with Sirius radios, executives said.
Sirius Chairman and CEO David Margolese, in a conference call with analysts, said the company expects radio quantities to be very limited when they first become available in the fourth quarter. Once Panasonic debuts its radios, other manufacturers will shortly follow with their radios, he said.
Despite the sour news, Margolese said he was upbeat about Sirius' future. "We remain extremely positive and very excited about the long term growth prospects," he said.
The company also reiterated that it has enough cash to continue funding its operations. Newly-appointed Chief Financial Officer John Scelfo said the company has more than $400 million in cash on hand, enough to keep the company going for some time.
