as some of you may have read, my od light has been blinking , and at this time unable to pull a code, i have called two places so far, one is an independent gas/service station that subs out the work to his tranny guy, was quoted $1300 with a one year guarantee for a complete rebuild and torque converter over the phone, second phone call was to aamco on utica ave in broolyn. appointment is on friday,

i have cd4e jr shift kit instructions and will bring them with me to aamco to see what the deal is,

aamco also rebuilds tranny, how much extra should one expect to pay for the addition of the cd4e jr kit, if the tranny is already open, and i provide the kit...ill have the answer on fri.

any other questions(comments) should i have ready when dealing with the repair shop?

thanks

ddmd3216 will you have your mounts replaced there as well
while the tranny is out?

I would have a conversation with the tech to see if he knows about the recommend cd4e upgrades which roadrunner can tell you about like the filter tech filter and using a 98 core tranny instead of your current tranny and the

While you're talking to that tech, show him your fluids & capacities section of the owners manual - the part where it says DO NOT use Mercon V.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

spoke with ian at aamco, external controls of trans will be inspected along with pulling the code, i also hope to speak about a cooler, and possible filter, as well as a clutch pak set from http://www.raybestospowertrain.com
go to catalog

what benefits would there be from using a better clutch set,

thanks

just came from aamco, i have a p 0732 code for the tranny, "code definition not available" is what i was told, as for cd4e kit, they have it and will use, as far as cooler, i was asked if i race or do anything unusual, he said if it was necessary he would do,but would put their own cooler in, i said lets see what the damage is first,

anyway, was quoted $1095 base price for labor, softparts and 12/12 warranty, torque converter is $349 not rebuilt but swapped, so $1444 + hardparts for a price probably close to 2000, 3/36 warranty was offered for $295,

after road test late 1/2 shift was the problem, that we knew, fluid had burnt odor.

what is the difference between hardparts and soft parts, how much do hard parts run, was quoted between 200 -1000, my prob is in late 1/2 shift, if i keep driving it it will get worse,

any thoughts would be appreciated,
thanks

ah the search feature gotta love it

The following is from the Ford TSP (Technical Service Publication):

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0731/P0781 indicates gear #1 incorrect ratio. DTC P0732/P0782 indicates gear #2 incorrect ratio. DTC P0733/P0783 indicates gear #3 incorrect ratio. DTC P0734/P0784 indicates gear #4 incorrect ratio.

DTC P0750/P0751, P1751 indicates SS1 electrical malfunction. DTC P0755/P0756/P1756 indicates SS2 electrical malfunction. DTC P0760/P0761/P1761 indicates SS3 electrical malfunction.

Possible causes:
-- Internal Transmission.
-- Damaged solenoid.
-- Solenoid circuit open or shorted to VPWR or GND.
-- VPWR circuit open or shorted.
-- PCM damaged.

* Key off.

* Disconnect transmission vehicle harness connector. Inspect for damaged or pushed out pins, corrosion, loose wires, etc. Service as necessary.

* Connect DVOM between the VPWR pin and the suspect solenoid pin at the transmission vehicle harness connector.

* Perform KOEO Self-Test.

under possible causes which are hardparts and which are soft parts?

could it be possible that i dont need the whole trans rebuilt and that the possilbe causes could cost less,

what determines the need for a new torque converter?(probalby just a good idea?)

P0732 Improper Ratio for Second Gear.

The service manual only points to larger tires, broken speedo gear or damaged speedo gear as hard part items. Electrically - it could be a short in the wiring harness, the PCM, Throttle Postion Sensor, Vehicle Speed Sensor or the Transmission Fluid Temp Sensor.

The TFT is located on the solenoid block IIRC. It cannot be changed as a stand alone part if that is the case. This part can usually run in the $250 range IIRC.

Hard parts are anything made of metal; gears, pump, input shaft, drums, etc... Soft parts and things like your clutches.

When it comes to replacing hard parts, yes the price can sky rocket in no time.

Good luck!

i will bring the ford tsp to the aamco and see what they say, hopefully they can check the info on the sheet and the problem may not be as involved(costly)

i may also check out one other shop and get one more estimate,
