I've just recently heard about these subs though www.carmedia1.com and was wondering if anyone had experience with these, it says the 15" is 3,000 watts rms, and they have dual 1 ohm voice coils, how is this possible??
thanks,

Kirk

Dual 1 Ohm is possible, the coil is made of a very heavy gauge (by voice coil standards) wire most likely 18.5-19.5ga. They have programs that tell them how many windings, what gauge, and diameter the wire should be. The 3000 watts rms is bull though. At DB drag doing burps maybe but if you could put 3000 rms all day (you cant get any amp(s) to put that out to one speaker, not even a Memphis D that is linkable) those suckers will fry.

Few Manufactures now have quad 1 ohm coils, thats right 4 coils on a woofer. More power, more SPL, more trophies (if they dont all blow apart)

Actually 3000 watts RMS is entirely possible, the there are a few on the market. Finding an amp that will provide that kind of power would be very difficult to provide. The SS Tarantula is a 2000 watt amp. I don't know of a higher powered amp off hand.
