Yeah that's a great motto if you want to be the household tyrant and possibly alienate your kids. Any good parent should know that compromises always have to be made.
Its only going to take one time of the parents confronting the kid about what he did, when he knows there was noone around to catch him and he will know somethings up. Soon, he will just take the bugged car to his friends and then go out in the friend's car where mommy and daddy cant watch.
Is it a good idea, possibly. Does it slightly worry me that you have a little box informing the parents about the child? Somewhat. Why dont the parents just give the local police access to the data. When the kid speeds, he/she gets a speeding ticket mailed to the house.
EDIT: Having one of these in your car when you take it to the mechanic might not be a bad idea.

I am 18 years old. My gf is only 5 months younger than myself. This informartion will come inportant as i tell my opinion. I believe this device is a bit , that if we are driving so bad and parents now a days have so little faith in their own offspring whom they raised to be the way they are can't trust their children, its just awful. My parents do not need to know every move i make as long as they trust I am not partying and am home at a reasonable hour. Also we lived in Seattle for a year where the drivers were very careful and courteous, my dad loved it. My dad taught me to drive like that. now do i speed yes, do i know where my turn signals are yes (in iowa no one knows), can i drive in my own lane when a bike is along the side of the road yes, have i caused any s no. You as a parent are completely responsible for how your child turns out as a driver. If your child sucks chances are you suck. Children will their parents because as you guys have said my house my rules. Well set the right example and they will follow.
My gf parents are very strict and well now she s them and might even come down to legally disowning them. Did they teach her to drive no. Could she drive before i met her no, she was completely awful. So now they have a child who cant drive and s them because they dont trust her. She can now drive having met me and my father who are sticklers for good driving.
This device is just going to cause distrust between the paretns and children and thats just not a good thing at all. It causes the family to have major issues as i am very much in the midst of some of hers.

This is just the "v chip" for a car basically. I'll say the same thing I've always said about crap like this: If parents were doing their friggin job as PARENTS there would be NO NEED for stupid things like this!

I wish my parents could have tracked my car when i was young. Here's how it would have gone down, "Yeah mom we are going to joes house" i then would have proceeded to drive my "bugged"car to joes house parked it and went with others where ever i wanted.

As far as the consumer version goes I think that is personal choice every parent (or just plain car owner) will have to make on their own.
What freaks me out is the fact GM (and others) have already been putting versions of this in cars. What the hell happened to the fifth ammendment. Course that is a hard sell when they have used it to put away a jerk going 114 mph who killed two people. But dang, before to long our cars will have just print out tickets as we speed - GAH!!! My dark, apocalyptic vision will come true!!!

I think it is another invasion of Privacy. Privacy is the term we use when we want to protect our lives from interference. It implies we all have the right to live our lives free from unnecessary surveillance or intrusion. We need more than an assurance that governments and companies will treat personal information confidentially. We need to know that our privacy will not be lost in a world where companies have instant and constant electronic access into our homes and workplaces. Some cars have devices that record speed and various data. Most car owner do not know about the device. I think Road star is a good example, it knows exactly where you are.
Even smart people like to snoop on people, like Richard Nixon and Watergate.

I think if I was a kid with that I'd put the car up on jack stands at a friends house and take the tires off and get it going about 140mph. Then bolt the wheels back on, go find some empty parking lot and drive in circles each direction for a while to set the hard cornering warning off. After doing all that I'd be ready to go to the drag races where I can speed legally and do some WOT accelerations to get the acceleration warning to go off. Do this for about 3 weeks and I'm sure you're parents will realize that this device is a piece of crap.
As stated above, teach your kids how to drive and be responsible. Send them to a driving school or go autox with them to teach them limits of the car. If you teach them to be responsible, to be courteous, and to drive safely you won't have to worry about your kids. It's the other drivers on the road you need to be worried about.

However, parents should gradually give their children more freedom as they earn it. It is still my house my rules, but I hope I have convinced my daughters that as they become more mature and more responsible, the rules change to match their circumstance.
Not changing in a capricious way, but rather to reflect their maturity.

Just another case of parents trying to raise their children away from home. Teach them right when young & they will act responsibly of their own accord.
Technology is not a substitute for good parenting. The schools are no substitute for parenting either. Children need boundaries so that they can learn for themselves that bad behavior = punishment, good behavior = reward. Consistant reinforcement of these principals at home will yield a well adjusted young man/woman of great charachter.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
