Doesn't the antenna going up also sound like a hum or electrical motor?

I'd start with having the battery tested, then the alternator output. When my battery finally died, it sounded a lot like what you're going thru.

I'm not sure how all this vacuum talk would effect you since it would make the car poorly right from the get go...and not "kick in" after 10 minutes driving, where the battery sure would.

I wouldn't rule out vacuum right away. Vacuum leaks have a tendency to happen as the temps in the engine compartment rise. The battery is a likely cause though.

thanks all!

hugo, wish I could drive down but don't think she'd make it there or back. I'll check the lines visually..

Ric mentioned the alternator, that was my first guess. Is that not feasible as the culprit?

My driving style was slow, going through town, 3000rpm or so.

I did replace the TPS and my secondaries seems to be fine now that I cleaned out the IMRC.

Since it starts up ok but then dies after a few, that makes me wonder. ok, will try to inspect the lines.

update:

- had the battery & alternator tested. both ok.
- visual inspection of hoses - appear ok to my untrained eye.

- looking like a fuel issue. Will have that checked out wed.
thanks all

any other suggestions welcome.
