alright... get this...
i pay $166/month for LIABILITY ONLY! i have these tickets currently (going to get new insurance, though): 9/00: speeding, 42 in 25 school zone; 10/00: careless driving, doing burnouts; 4/01: speeding, 58 in 45 highway; 7/02: y-restriction, driving on intermediate licence @ 2:30am; 12/02: at-fault accident, "failure to stop in assured clear safe distance"
well, needless, i have a bad record, but according to my insurance carrier (mendota), i have 9 points on my licence. now, my freind has 17 (!) points on his licence, and has same carrier.
he pays about $100/month. sure, he drives a 1978 lincoln mark v now, but he used to have a 90 nissan sentra. so i ask the lady why my insurance is so damn high, and she's lookin through, and has no explaination. then she's giving me a quote through progressive, and she looks and says this:
"you have a SPORT, that's why your insurance is more expensive..."
i just about laughed my ass off, but i wanted to be polite.
RIGHT!!!! my gl sport is no different than my freinds non-sport besides i have power windows and alloys.
just thought i'd share that little funny story...
btw... i'm gonna go progressive online, they only want past 35 months, which drops two tickets, and is $110/month

I have power windows and alloys but Im not driving a sport. But...I carry full coverage with my companies maximum 300/500/300 and I only pay $124. I have one speeding ticket, that when I asked about it, my agent told me that it does absolutely nothing to my rate. 02/00 74 in a 70. And, my insurance drops in 13 days because of my 25th birthday. Suprisingly though, Progressive quoted me $1200/6 months. Maybe its just because I am without sport.

You are lucky you have insurance, many companies wouldn't bother. Your list of tickets indicates that you don't obey the law and/or are unaware of the laws. In 27 months you have been caught 5 times, pretty impressive. I'll bet the trend continues and you lose your lic.

How old are you? I used to pay $100 mo. liability when I was 16 on an 82 Chrysler New Yorker and I had no accidents/tickets! Of course my parents had 300/100 because it only cost them $25 month full coverage on each of their vehicles.
I was paying $100 month full coverage on same policy with the Contour "Sport". After I got married and turned 21 it dropped to $50 full coverage. Not bad.

Seriously, I would wait till the end of the year before you look for insurance. I'm 99% sure that insurance companies look back 3 years and your 2 tickets will expire at the end of next month.

DAYUM. What the hell is your driving malfunction??? Geez. I can see the 58 in a 45 and POSSIBLY the Y Restriction, but the rest of that is just STUPID STUPID STUPID.
That said, do you have anyone in your family that is a military officer, or with USAA?? They can get you on USAA if you do, and they are MUCH cheaper. We have USAA, and we have my Tour with FULL coverage, a 95 Explorer full coverage, AND renter's insurance and we only pay $95 a month for all that. My hub and I are also over 30 though. USAA is pretty expensive though for those under 25, but they are a great company. One of the best. So find out if you haven't a family member using them, then ask how much it would cost for you.

Oh, I don't know... I have four tickets in the last 12 months and my insurance hasn't been affected at all. All of them have been for speeding, all 10-18mph over and I have one at fault fender-bender in a friend's car. My insurance is $115 a month which has gone down from the $158 a month I was paying last year.

I wish I paid $1,992 a year for car insurance! I have no tix, 1 not-at-fault accident, and I drive a 2000 stripper SE. Do you know what I pay???? $3580 a year! Count your blessings, buddy...
EDIT: That $3580 is after driving 3 years and turning 21. it used to be almost $4,800 a year.
