I went to my friend's house last weekend and tried out his Centerline Star billet 17s on my car. They used to be my old rims back when I had my old 5.0 Mustang a several years ago. But since he got them from me then he was cool about letting me try them out to see what they look like on my 'tour.
Anyways, ignore the excessive offset of them. They DO stick out a lot because they are for RWD car apps but I just wanted to put that aside, in order to get an idea of what this style would look like on my car. What do you guys think? They have 225/40/17 tires on them now. I kinda liked the look of them but wonder if they will still look cool with the correct offset for the Contour (less deep dish look from the side view)?
This all came about, because my tires were almost bald and so I was considering rims the other day since I needed tires anyway, but couldn't figure out if I wanted to take the plunge into a set of $1000 rims, so I tried his on for looks just to get some idea if 17s really would pick up the looks much better than the 16s do now. But after tossing this idea around for a few days I realized I needed rubber bad, so I went on ahead and renewed the tires on my car (with the thinking that if needed, I could always sell the 16" rim/tire combo together to recoupe some of the expense of the upgrade to 17s).

First set of pics are of my car trying his 17s.
Second set of pics is with the new set (same size as I always had) of 205/50/16 tires on my current Enkei 16" wheels.

Current look:

What I REALLY want to do is to find some of the EXACT Enkei rims like I got now but in a 17" diameter and use a lower profile tire, but this type I have now is a discontinued design and so far no tire store can help me on this. So I've been trying to find some other type of black centered rim that has the polished aluminum look around the outer ring area of the rim, but this is too hard to find as well. The last option I thought of is to get some of those Centerline Stars and adonize in black just the flat part in the center of them, and then run them without the centercaps and use nice smaller chrome centercaps to go in just the very center hole along with nice chrome lugnuts (since you'd be able to see them). Then the rims would still have the shiney look to them around the outer ring of them, but black in the middle. Any opinions? This is why I just said screw it, and bought new rubber without rims for now, because I couldn't make up my mind. I just can't get myself to go for all the trendy mainstream things that are so popular now (mainly spokes). For this reason, I can't find any styles that I truly like in all the rim catalogs that I've seen in tirestores or online.

Too Latino or too Drag Car.

They dont look like they belong on a Contour , a Mustang is fine , they look like track wheels.

Also the Latino thing , they remind me of cars with the tiny 13" rims that stick out real wide.

I agree, the rims don't look like they fit too well, but if u like them go ahead, and about the low pros, I hope u have alot of smooth roads because I have a couple dents in my rims from pot holes

Funny you guys say all those things. Maybe that look somehow (in some unconscience way) is growing on me these last few years! After all, I'm married for 3 years to a full blooded Mexican gal from Jalisco, and I've spent a good share of time down in across the border visiting her family a few times and blending into their culture so maybe it's somehow rubbing off on me?
i never was one that liked the look of those cars with 13s sticking out like 10 inches either. I was actually just trying to imagine what my friend's rims would look like if sitting inside the wheelwell all the way? Maybe it would look to dragracish? I don't know, I kinda like what I got now with the black centers, I just wish they were 17s

Only a 50 series? Im sitting on 205/55-16s. They fill up the wheelwell quite nicely too. I am running more offset then you are, I can tell just by the pics.

But, FWIW, the Centerlines would be sweet if you could find the correct offset.
