If you're comparing the Pioneer 7200 and 7300, the display is NOT the only difference: The 7300 has 3 sets of 4v outputs, instead of 2 sets of 2v outputs. This is important depending on how much you might want to expand your system.

I'd take either right now, though, if anyone is feeling generous...

aight here is the scoop on which head units are good and bad. There is a sony called the active black panel one (there is a picture of it in about the third responce) that head unit is good, the rest of the sony execpt for the ES line (which is top of the line) is crap. At best buy every day we would have sony's retured and they were like one week old. Pioneer is one the best you can buy, but the 9200 which is top of the is also bad quality, because it has so many options they break a lot. The newwer panasonics are good and a lot of alpine cd players are good (some are complicated)

I happen to have a Sony XRC7200 that I got 3 years ago that still works fine and still pumps good power (At least when I was using it for power). I think you really cannot make blanket statements, even if you work at BB and see more Sony's come back. I had a Pioneer CD HU that stopped accepting CD's after 2 years for example. I never took it back, though or even replaced it yet.

Here's the key; Best Buy This means one of two things to me, either your install guys are trained monkeys (which is usually the case) of they tried to install it themselves and messed it up. How many people get their high quality competition grade stuff from Best Buy? That's like looking for quality clothes at Sears....

I work at Circuit City. I see Sony equipment come back all day long. Unless you are going to buy their highest end ES series stuff I would advise against it. I bought an Alpine 7863. LOVE IT!!!!! I'm not trying to start a fued or anything. I'm just trying to put my experience out there for you to make an educated decision. Do those Sony's have low pass and high pass filters. I can set up everything basically from my head unit. It's great.

As always, you have to look at this objectively and pick the HU that has the features you want for the price you want to pay. If you pay 400-500 you are going to get a good HU, regardless of the brand.

IMO, the best HU on the market is the Sony CDX-C90. It has the best internal electronics of any HU on the market, bar none. There are other HU that are wonderful also. Nakamichi decks don't have a lot of features but have high build quality. Companies like sony and Pioneer are ALWAYS going to get mixed reviews because they have a broad product line from sub $100 models to HU upwards of 800.00. What will happen is people think that they should be made with the same quality which is unrealistic. They have a problem and call it worse than audiovox or sparkomatic.

Clarion, seems to have the best quality from top to bottom in the HU they offer. Alpine, Eclipse, and Nak could easily be the same or better quality but the difference between all of them is negligible to say the least.
