Can you give us a budget that you would stay within? $300-400?

I have a sony CDX-M600... Plenty of power to drive the Pioneer 6x8's in all the doors, and I have a 280watt amp driving a 10" sub in the trunk. Over all it offers really crisp sound quality at just about unbearable levels inside the car, though it's not like people are going to hear you coming down the street unless you have your windows down. The sony is nice 'cause it offers the band-pass filters in the headunit, so I can filter the lows out of the 6x9's and filter the highs out of the signal before it ever gets to the amp and sub. The 600 is discontinued, but the 610 and 750 are available with pretty much the same setup. ------------------ 2000 SE Sport 2.5 MTX Torreador Red A6 Sidemarkers Clear Corners All Badging removed Chrome painted interior Custom Mesh Grille 893 to 885 fog upgrade Sony Xplod Headunit

That's true. But better HU does=more $$.
For a 500.00 budget I would consider the Sony CDX-M750 and the Nak CD-45Z. The pioneer 9200 should also be within that budget. Ubid has had the DEX-P1R and it has sold for under 400.00 recently. That is another very viable option.
The Sony CDX-C910 might be another good option if you would consider used equipment.

I know you said you want CD text, but I put in a Nak 40z a few weeks ago and Iove it. It's a little finiky about scratched cd's but I can live with that, it's not really a big issue.

Good point about the nak and CD text. I would have to check on that because i'm not sure. There are really so many good options within your budget it's hard to recommend one.
