Just got back from a long road trip up the East Coast to New Brunswick. Prices seemed to get higher the farther north I got, from about $1.77 in Virginia to $1.98 in Maine for 87 octane (in Canada, God knows what I paid; .87 Canadian per liter or something...OTOH, they had better-maintained roads than we do (at least in NB) so maybe it's worth it.
