So who has larger x-max on a 10 or 12?

The one that immediately comes to my head is the eclipse titanium series but there are a couple more. DD and Kove I believe both exceed the MASS xmax.

I checked out the Kove, didn't know much about them. Look like good subs. I know DD are pretty sweet. Haven't heard much about the Eclipse Titanium, other than they exist. But I think all those subs cost a lot more than the MASS. I got mine for 300. So for a 300 dollar sub, I think being able to handle 800 to 1k RMS and 20mm X-MAX is pretty sweet.

I also heard the DD subs (I assume you refer to the beast) take a ton of power to make them perform (upwards of 1000+ watts to get them sounding like they should, and 1200+ to get them near full X-MAX).

Like I said, this is what i hear. What do you run?

I agree completely with almost everything you said. There are some monster subs out there and most of them have extremely low effeciency, huge power handling and sound like crap for anything but SPL competitions. DD and Kove stuff is monstrous, but I'd never expect SQ out of them. If you model them in an audio program, the freq. plot if horrid.

Like i said, for the price the MASS subs are difficult to beat with brand names car audio. But, you could spend the same money and get two to three 12-15" subs with 16MM of xmax and equal if not better SQ and better sensitivity.

My latest version of my stereo was using two JL 10W6, but then I got into a car accident. Before that, i was using an Adire Audio Shiva in a 1.75 cubic foot box. Before that, two JL10W1 (still one of my favorite when it comes to SQ), 2 Kicker C-15-8, then my memory gets hazy....haha

Before my MASS 12 I had the following subs:

2 15" kicker comps, then I sold those and bought 4 12" kicker comps, then I sold those, got a smaller car, and bought 2 Rockford Fosgate Punch (bad choice imo, I think they suck, punch not powers), and then I went to the MASS. Out of them all I like the MASS the best. The 4 12's was insanely loud, but that was about it. It just didn't sound very musical... Not to mention it destroyed my car. It broke all my trunk welds, shook the cooling lines out of my transmission, and I don't know HOW many times it shook my mirror off my window hehe.

I think, for my needs now, once I get some Dynamat and other sound dampening done, I have all the bass I need and it sounds very nice. I am most impressed with just how well the sub is handling the musical transients that other subs just kind of "flubbed" through. It could be the fact I am sending it 750RMS to hehe. =P Anyway, once I get my install finished and stop toying with new boxes, I wil take some pics and get it all metered.

Zack
