I would try buying a bigger sub or getting 2 high quality 10" subs and run alot of power to them. Even in the trunk you could produce some major bass. Although I have no idea what kind of subs or power you are running to them. Sound like you just need to adjust your bass response or get a diff kind of box. If it's to boomy or to tight etc.
