I would agree with Aarons suggestion of trying both ways. I would hesitate porting the box. Ported boxes are pretty difficult to tune correctly. If you want more bass and you want to port the enclosure, make sure you build the box to the MFG specs. Or post what kind of subs you are using and t/s parameters for that sub and I'll let you know what size to use for the box and the port.
