soo i just got a new job working valet. and the guy i work with pulls up in an older 5.0 mustang sounds like it has an exhaust of some sort. so i ask him what he has for hp/tq and what hes run in the 1/4. "yeah, i ran a 13.4", "not sure what i have for hp/tq though ive never dynoed it". so im kinda impressed and ask what he has for mods, since stock 5.0's are pretty slow for what they are. "yeah i have a full exhaust and gears". now correct me if im wrong but this sounds like a bunch of BS.

actually no. that sounds doable. the 302 looooooooooves to be moded. what does he mean but "full" exaust. there are a bunch of setups he could have on that thing. i've had 3 5 liter stangs so far and they all got up and moved. one i kept stock for awhile and i wouldn't exactly call it slow.

i dunno...I would think lots of torque and some good gearing could get you to 13.4...but I dunno for sure.

full exhaust could mean headers all the way to tail pipe, so he could be running that.

gears help big time with the stangs. at least if they have the factory 2.73 gears (i think that's right.) stepping up to 3.73 or even 4.10 will help a lot. there are many types of headers for it, he could also have an X or an H pipe, w/ or w/o cats. high flow mufflers and large diameter tubing. that thing will move. this is assuming it's a 5spd. if it's an auto he's talking out his ass. 13's can easily be achived with an auto 5.0, but will need a lot more work then just exhaust and gears.

I'm not so sure about a 13.4 without some more work being done. I had two 5.0s. Both stick. One basically stock except for some exhaust work, cold air intake and a bump in timing. I ran a best 14.5 with that one. However, my second one that I just had about a year and a half ago had full length headers, Bassani X-Pipe no cats, Mac hi-flo mufflers, 3.73 gears, bumped up timing, underdrive pullies, Dunlop 5000s, 70mm throttle body, adjustable fuel pump regulator, true fenderwell cold air induction, short shifter, superchip, and a thermometer. I ran a best of 13.75 in that one (damn, I miss that car!) Anyway, I'm gonna go cry now. Just thought I'd share.

well there ya go. sounds like that dude might be BSin after all. who knows tho. depends on track conditions, driver, and that sort of stuff. next time just ask for his timeslip if he's got it. but when it comes to 5 liter stangs, you never really know.
