There were many other cases but the last one is significant.
Running lean does not cause much pinging in a stock engine unless there is annother problem. Reduced EGR, Octane creep, and timing problems top the list.

Hummm... maybe i am too ignorant... but I don't recall anyone EVER saying clean the MAF on the ZETEC to help the pinging.... all those are V6 guys.... and (sorry again ) I don't follow questions regarding the duratec (just because I don't have time... that's all).

But thanks anyway... I am reading the whole thing.

I would definately say: go to autozone, buy the electrical cleaner amd clean the MAF/IAT throughout the DAY !!!

Also clean the connectors that go to these sensors...

hmm.... i should do that.

my car has a lean condition and runs real hot/rough. doesn't seem to ping, but misses a lot (probly bad coil pack too)

i'll get some cleaner and do that when i tighten my airbag.

You know... like a Physics problem: after the problem is solved everybody is like: "wow.. how didn't I think about this??"

It's a common solution on the Mustang boards. If you use an oiled filter (K&N and similar), you can expect that the pinging will come back. Oil gets wicked from the filter and coats the MAF sensor. An occasional cleaning of the sensor with electrical contact cleaner will keep you in good shape.
