Nope, not safe/clean/good enough for the Americans.

The Pony was the best-selling import car in Canada in history.

I loved the Pony. What a great car. No computer BS, a manual choke/tranny/intake heater points igniton it was great. Even pretty quick too. (0-60 in 13.5 sec, not bad for what is essentially an early 1970's Mitsubishi Lancer / Dodge Colt)

I was shocked when I actually liked the looks of a Hyundai. Purty car.

Now I drive a Saab 900. Hee, from no computer to a million! stupid ABS, dead power antenna, broken seat heater, electric fan switches, etc. My Pony didn't even have an antenna. And the Saab was 375 usd, the Pony, free.

A Candian-spec mk2 Pony :

Earlier Ponys from 1975 to ~1982 had slightly different front ends and rears. Pony was sold in Canada between 1984 and 1987. For 36% less green than in South Korea, by the way.

<edit> Hyundai Pony's are still sold today. What we know as the Excel was actually the new Pony to everyone else, ditto the Accent. </edit>

No, Hyundai never imported the Pony to the US. Nor did we get the Stellar.

Love the new Tiburon, but there is no way in hell I can possibly fit in that car. And I'm not THAT tall at 6'3".

Seat was at the lowest point, and my head was still hitting the roofline. Too bad.

Is it just me or does it look a hell of a lot like a Maserati Spyder?

I know the coupe looks like a cross between a Ferrari 456GT and a Ferrari 550/575 Maranello.

But with ath SLK-style roof, I'd think it to be a fair bit costlier than the coupe, which is a little tight on headroom for me too.
