In previous reports of this phenomenom on '00 models it turned out owner's were simply seeing light from the tail lights, rather than trunk light. In other cases it appeared that trunk light came on with ignition key. None of the threads were conclusive in determining if '99/'00 wiring was different.
On my cars, trunk light solely works from microswitch mounted to trunk latch, visible after removing trim from bottom of trunk opening. If mounting is loose light will stay on.
