bob, i have a question about the slap shows. when you get there and you register for "mild" or "wild" class shouldnt that mean that there is a best of those two classes? if you lump them all together in the end when judging then why have classes? just a thought.
and what magazine is your car in again. i went to look for a copy the other day and couldnt find it. thanks.
First the easy question: My car is in Car Audio & Electronics magazine. The October issue. Some places may still have the September issue on display (it has a green car on the cover, and I have an interview in that one too). The October issue has more of an orange/brown colored cover. Visit www.caraudiomag.com for the magazine's website.
Second, about the classes... Last year we had more defined classes based on make/model of vehicle. But some competitors (out east primarily, where the shows were larger than here) were getting upset about the classes changing from week to week. For example, one week a show may be small enough that a competitor would be in the "Honda Civic - Stock" class, but then the next week the show was bigger so the same car would be in the "Honda Civic - Stock, Red, 2-Door, with 4 dents" class. and it really didn't make sense. So for this year, the classes were simply made "Mild" and "Wild" and people would vie for "Top 20" status in each. Out East it meant something because there would be more than 20 Milds at each show, and sometimes more than 20 Wilds too. Here, it is basically a "Participation Award" because the shows haven't been big enough yet. As for the "Best of Show" awards, they typically bridge the classes and are selected from the show as a whole, hence the name.
I guess what I am saying is that we have classes because that is what the sanctioning body dictates. In some parts of the country, the class placements matter. Here, we just haven't gotten big enough yet (but if you guys keep coming we can change that!!).
Take care, and let me know if you have any other questions.
ps- my car will be on display in the SVTOA-HOI booth and entered in the show at Uftrings as well. Maybe I'll be able to give you demos of the system. I hope to see all of you there!
