A ZX5 would fall into your price range. Just as roomy as the Tour was, and reliability issues of 2000-2001 are gone. That is if you are a fan of the styling on the Focus. You may even get lucky and be able to find a discounted SVT ZX5 in your price range. The Protege5 is another car worth taking a good look at.

I agree, the minivan is the BEST way to go to schlep around kids stuff. Damn the folks who say they are not "cool", they are downright convenient and you won't kill your back stooping to put a baby in a car seat or to buckle older ones into a booster seat.

The sliding doors are also really convenient. You don't have to worry about enough room, kids dinging the car next to you, etc.

My wife toted around her first kid in a 91 Pontiac Sunbird 2 door. The upside was it had no airbags, so the kid rode in front. I know putting Camy (4 years old) in the back seat of the SVT or Prizm is a bigger hassle than in the minivan.

So don't rule out a minivan, just because others don't think they are cool.

Get what works for you, your budget and the heck with those who say they are not cool.

I guess I look at things differently. I have 3 children (12, 11, 9). And I look at emergency maneuvering, accident avoidence, communicative driving, and try and balance that with the need for interior space and ease of getting in/out. Hence why I recommended the Maxima and 5 series. My 3 girls are all "yeah BMW!!" and "Boooo mini-vans"...gottem trained already ;-)

But as its your $$$...get the mini-van. I only saw a bazillion of them in ditches this winter on I-96 and US 131 in MI.

Well,

You can get a minivan that handles. I'm pretty sure our Mazda MPV still out handles most Buicks, SUV's and other minivans.

Finally, take a peep at a Grassroots Motorsports mag where they test a Honda Odyssey against some sports cars.

The results will amaze you!

If I had kids I'd gladly zip around in an Odyssey; it's the best minivan ever.

It's not as good as our 00 MPV, but it was a close second in the consideration.

It was just too big for my tastes, and lacked some creature comforts at the time such as moonroof, leather, and roll down windows for the kiddies.

just remember that you will be lugging around not just your family members but other kids and parents as well as there stuff as you participate in all if that family with children stuff.

and with the bigger vehicle you will be more popular on someone's speed dial for those trips to purchase boxes of baby stuff from shopping clubs and stuff.

We'll see how it goes...I have $3K in my pocket and until Monday night to decide, unless I can drive my mom's car after. I may check out a few minivans, but I am only 23! What would people say? j/k. Any way, reasons why the MP5 is appealing to me:

*The look(Cardomain even has some lowered with wheels... )

*The price. If I can't have a fully optioned 6 I don't want one. (Auto, moon, leather = $24-25K)

*Financing through Mazda Credit(Ford Credit's sister company). 4 years without a late payment to Ford Credit should count for something, eh?

*Handling

I am planning on looking at the ZX5(non-SVT) as well.

As far as stripping the Contour today(last remaining items), I removed:

K&N
Cup ashtray
EL Gauges
Alarm/remote start
Rubber antenna

Sorry to say I couldn't remove the SE sideskirts. I tried all I could, but the rivets were hard to break! I tried my best to break them off but no luck. Sorry guys.

The box/trunk pieces wouldn't come out either. The metal from the rear/trunk of the vehicle is bent over top of the floor, which was pushing up against the box. My dad and I put a lot of time into it so I wanted it back.
