Thus equipped - sporting a six-speed manual transmission, all-wheel-drive, and 220hp 5-banger with the wick turned up on its turbo, the new model in T5 specification makes an altogether more compelling case for itself than its predecessor. That said, T5 or no, the S40 will remain down a cylinder and a bit short of grunt to several of its prime competitors (the Accord, for example, has a 240hp V6), but then again, most lack its available awd.
