Stereotypes exist because of multiple but similar actions. Stereotypes persist because they are rooted in truth. Right, wrong or indifferent. It's true, a few bad apples can spoil the whole bunch.

that's what a stereotype is. a classification of a broad group of people that is only true in some instances, and not in others. take it for what it is.

I take it for what it is everyday & I am well aware of it's meaning. I just made the statement that its "not necessarily true", a statement and only a statement.
The Queer Eye show was not based on a stereotype...if it were, these guys would be running around in womens dresses (Warmonger, define cross-dressing), hitting on the guys that they are making over, & trying to get them in bed. Which is what I believe the post about the lesbian show is about (the straight male's perception of what a lesbian is...ie: stereotype). So if there were a show, it would be completely different than what most on here could come up w/, period. (oh that too)

I disagree, I don't think the stereotype of the typical gay man includes cross dressing, drag and hitting on every guy they meet.
Heck, even I know about "GAYDAR" and I'm embarrassingly straight, LOL.
(Although, I think a "fashionable" straight guy may confuse some implementations of GAYDAR.)
The final nail in the coffin is I see no real purpose for style and fashion.
Sure, you gotta look nice, but who cares if you are wearing this label or that, or do you have the currently popular color scheme in your home/car/clothing.
I'm more interested in a person's character. That typically doesn't change over time.
So I think a lot of "fashion" and trends play on people's insecurities.
What will he/she think of me if I don't have the latest fashion?
Who cares about people who only see your labels and not your soul, your personality, etc?
To me, fashion is about making people feel insecure about who they are, trying to hide those insecurities in merchandise, and then getting rich off of it.
I'm all for capitalism, but I'm also for value. Value in the monetary as well as character aspects of that word.

How about "Hard Skills for Soft Men" where our team of 5 hopelessly straight guys teach gay men how to do useful tasks around the home and car. This week's episode, installing new springs and struts on your VW Jetta.
TB
The only problem I foresee is that I doubt that the soft men would remain soft around a bunch of manly men.
For casting, there are only two people I know with Jettas. Packrat and Honkeytonk. Are you inferring anything about their preferences?

I love double entendre!!! Soft men, LOL...
Well, isn't VW known as the choice of cars for a gay generation? I'll let others decide if the VW/gay stereotype works BOTH ways...

I do have a question.
Would my old 81 VW Rabbit Diesel count towards that stereotype?

I watched this show and honestly found it amusing. The episode I watched involved an artist that looked like charles manson. They took his whole apartment apart and re organized it so it was more functional. They gave him cooking lessons and set up a gallery show for his artwork. They also made his appearance more appealing. I personally like this show. I would rather watch this that then "complete makeover" show where the lady gets plastic surgery done to change her whole appearance. Anyone see fear factor??? this week or last. Oh and I love sports and cars but beer isnt what i would preferably drink.
tired of the bs
