I want to do a few things to my contour but have not heard a lot of goot things about my tranny. I have the ATX and when I encountered this problem with my Focus, people told me to get a manual. Can't drive a manual, no lower left leg.

All I was thinking was a chip, replace the filter box, intake pipe, and probably exhaust.

Will this mess with the tranny too much?

I have a chip to custom burn & plan on an exhaust/intake combo soon. Your tranny should be just fine if....

you install an add on transmission oil cooler. They're easy to install & you can pick one up at your local parts store, or order one on-line. I strongly recommend the high efficiency stacked coolers.

When you install it, you'll be flushing the old tranny fluid. BE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT USE MERCON V!!!!!!!! Use only Mercon fluid (up to Dexron III, if I recall corectly).

According to AAMCO the #1 killer of automatic trannys is HEAT. The #2 killer of automatic trannys is low fluid level. The lesson here: keep track of how much fluid you drain out of the transmission & replace that much PLUS extra for the volume of the new cooler.

Enjoy your ride!

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Get an SVT radiator and oil cooler to install along with a high efficiency external trans oil cooler.

This gives you a thicker radiator for better engine cooling along with the oil cooler for engine longevity, then a trans cooler that is at least as cool as stock. Everything will run cooler and last longer....remember, the HOT ENGINE is still bolted to the tranny and will conduct its heat right into it. Make everything cooler if you can to extend it's life out.

Also do the intake and exhaust mods as they will net more power.

However, to answer your question:

NO, the tranny will be just the same as it is now if you mod the intake and exhaust. It will take serious power adders to screw up your transmission.

Thanks guys. I was wondering if you can give me any brand names for the tranny cooler?
