I need some help on what is going on with my brakes.
I have a 96 SE v6 auto with 4 wheel disk and abs and no t/c My front brake rotors and pads have about 3500 miles on them. " Firestone parts " I went in for a oil change and tire rotion, I soon learn from the tech that my left front rotor has a big crack in it.Firestone replaced it for free but now when you hit the brake pedel it goes about 85 % to the flool befor you feel it starting to grab and then if you hit it again it will get stronger. Firestone has bleed it in many dif: ways, they went through a gallon of brake fuild by the way. All calipers are working and all seems to be in good working order. We even put on a new master cyl:with no change to the way it feels. I am at a loss with it.
Please Help if you can

Did they remember to put the spring clips back on the outside? Air in the system maybe.

That would've been my guess too. I did that the very first time I changed my front pads and accidently put the clips on wrong (don't ask me how I did that, not paying close enough attention I guess) and ended up with a VERY mushy pedal. Try that first.
Also, since they didn't need to open the system (ie brake lines, maybe only the reservoir cap) there SHOULDN'T have been any air suddenly introduced into the system. BUT, there is a specified order to bleed the system see the HOW-TO write-up.
I'll put holes in him!!

If it's not the clips or air in the lines then more than likely it s master cylinder problem!

What the heck is that? What's with 2 springs? Yours should look like the spring that goes too the far left? Ignore the one to the right.

Thanks Andy, this does help Me to know that they are on right so now I am at a loss. My brake shims did the same thing so I took them off. What Rotor is that you are useing
Well as stated befor I dont know what to do so I will have to take it to the Dealer I hate having to do that every time I do the car comes back with somthing wrong about it, a bunch of miles or no gas or a bunch of brake dust on the wheels.
I will have the dealer do a NGS power bleed on the abs hoping that just maybe when Firestone put the new rotor on they pushed some dirt into the dump value and it wont come loss with reg: Bleeding.
Thanks again Rick
