Can anyone suggest a decent, reasonably priced performance tire, minimum V rated, that is relatively quiet?

I made the mistake of picking up 2 brand new BFG G Force KDW's to replace 2 bad ones on my new SVT and I really don't like them. Way too much road noise.

If anyone is intersted, the KDW's, 2 new, and 2 w/ 90% tread will be up for sale soon.

I like my Firestone SZ 50 EP's. They are not all-season so I would use them in snow, heck they don't even like wet grass, but it almost never snows in Houston. They stick very nice on both wet and dry pavements and are quieter than the Firestone GTA's that came stock on my SE. The Tire rack has had them for $117 for a while which is $45 less than I paid for them. I was considering getting something less expensive with a softer ride but if they are still at this price when it is time it will be hard to pass them up for the third set of these.

I've searched for the same thing. Based on what I've read on Tirerack.com about cars like ours (front wheel drive performance sedans) the Dunlop 9000 come pretty high rated, and is only a pinch less performancie than the Bridgestone SO3s and the Firestone 50s. The Pirellli P Zero Nero also looks to be a fairly quiet tire.

Have to add...some guys are crazy about the Toyo Proxis and Siemperits (sp?) too...

FWIW, I really don't notice much traction difference between my Dunlop SP Sport 5000's and my old KDW's, and the Dunlops are all-season and super-quiet.

Thanks guys. I guess that I'll check out some prices.

The KDW's just aren't up to par. I've had higher performace tires that have been much quiter than these. What is BFG thinking?

Yep, I love my T1-S's from Toyo. They are great - as a matter of fact I just put four on my Cobra. You have to try to spin them in first. With 300 lb-ft of torque that's a good thing.

Actually, I was going to post here about my experience at Pocono Raceway a couple of weeks ago but I never had the chance. In my run group there was Eric F with a Cougar on track rubber and a miata on track rubber and my T1-S's were very close to being comparable to the track rubber! All in all I've done two autox sessions and about an hour and a half on a road course and there's still plenty of tread left (after a couple thousand miles driving back and forth to work). I will NOT be changing my brand any time soon - my track rubber will be Toyo RA-1's or the new T1-R's or whatever they're going to be and I'm going to probably get Toyo snow tires, too.

Hope that helps and I KNOW you will not be disappointed if you get them. Shop around A LOT as the price is going up due to popularity. I got four 245/45/17's for $170 apiece.
