I should have mine by the end of next week. hopefully my amp will be in by then also. I got a Lanzar 1200D, picked it up for 220!! Rated at 1200 at a 1ohm (yes, it IS stable and WILL play without dying at 1 ohm, it has been tested.) It is a D rated amp, which many audiophiles frown upon, BUT, class D for subs is just fine since they are MUCH less subjective to the "somewhat" noisier D circuits, andin return they run cooler, last longer, and don't kill your alternator like class A/B amps do.

I agree with you assesment of class d amps. The biggest advantage of all is the cost. about 1/4 the cost of a class a/b amp. Keep in mind that class d, h and t amps are relatively new technology and the quality will improve. Audiophiles also shunned class a/b when it was introduced. Just think if we all had pure class a amps in our cars. we'd have no need for a heater....

There would be NO "road rage" ! We would all be too involved with the music to notice the non-driving transgressions of our fellow commuters.

But seriously, ALL amps sound differently ! Price is not always an accurate indicator of sound quality. However, in my experience, tubes sound more musical than anything else. I know that MOSFETS distort in the same way as tubes (distortion products are predominantly even order ), however tubes sound much better to me. My tube amp died, so I was forced to audition many other amps. There were many different amps auditioned. I chose a Yamaha RV-1105. This amp sounds CLOSER to the tube amp than any other I have used, but it is still not as good.... however, it IS much more practical, and very musical. Scientists have not determined what "good sound" is, so .... If you like the sound, and can listen for several hours at a time without fatigue, you have achieved an accurate playback system. This is an extremely difficult thing to do.

oh no...a tube amp....keep control of myself....don't say anything bad.....

just kidding. testing has proven that tube amps color sound and significantly higher distortion than solid state amps. If that is what you prefer you have no argument from me. Some times a little coloring gives the music a little life. It's kinda like listening to blues. the best place to do it as at some hole in the wall bar with a guy playing on his 30 year old equipment. solid state amps and modern speakers kill that sound that makes the music great because they are too accurate.

I lost this poor post waaaay down there. Just wanted to report the MASS is serving Bas Head #23485 with a very large smile indeed. =) I have been enjoying the "What kinda 12's are those?" questions hehe. I like the look on teir face when I say "12's?" =D
