As for what brand the ribbons are, I have seen and bought them under 3 different names (Pioneer, JVC, and Radio Shack), but all are identical. They have a step down transformer on the back which makes them fairly deep to mount. They cannot be crossed over very low, and are most likely fairly fragile, but they sound very fast, smooth, and detailed.
