I don't get it! I built a perfectly fine box, and it sounds like $#!+! I gave each sub 1.5cu.ft. of space and the contruction is flawless. If the earth were hit by an asteroid, I could survive the explosion in this box. It is the heaviest thing on earth. For some reason though, it sounds really awful! It has deep bass sure, but it's almost like a droning bass. I have my amp turned all the way down and it still does it! I worked so hard on that @#$ box too! This just pisses me right off! Did I go too small or too big? It isn't ported and the subs are facing the roof of the trunk. Maybe I can use it as a cofee table! @#$!

I wish I could find the T/S parameters of your speakers. Sorry...

Hey Honkey --

It sucks that you've spent all this time (and money) working on your sub only to have it fail. As someone who has spent time trying to fix / build things only to have it fail, I know how you feel.

On the bright side, if the box is constructed very well, you could remove the woofer, but a basin in the bottom of the box, and use it to poop on!

did you use box stuffing? you might try experimenting. changing the interior dimensions and contours (ha) may help as well.

stuffing may help some. basically it makes the speaker think it's in a bigger enclosure.

Interior dimenions in a sub box are pretty meaningless because of the wavelegnths that bass frequencies have.

Cover the back of the speaker with panty hoes, fill the rest of the box with polypropylene fiber (pillow stuffing) and make sure there are NO leaks. Monkeysnot the inside joints. Worked like a champ for me years ago.

Reading the remark on the coffee table bit reminded me on a story. Care if I share?

When I was in the Army I loved car audio, my roomy loved home audio, so he had a full Carver setup with massive 15" Vega home speakers, I had bought a box and subs from a guy who needed cash, but this box was freaking huge and was not fitting in my car. One of those too good to pass up deals. It was a full Bandpass Medite box with a inlaid Plexiglass windwow. Box was speckle painted, (read early 90's) and had a black carpeted top. Inside were 2 15" DVC Orion subs. We hooked em up to the Vega subs crossover and ran the Carver amp into some weird ohm rating. We used this beast of a box as a coffee table. That box spilt a lot of beer from unsuspecting house guests.

Thanks for letting me share!

Thanks for your responses and pity. I found the problem with the box. The subs are sealed in behind a window. I wish I could show pics so you could see it. The subs are facing different directions. You can see the front of one and the back of the other (the clarions have nice looking rear ends) I have vents for the fronts of each sub and the rear parts are sealed airtight. The droning was occuring because I forgot to tighten the glass on the right side of the box. The glass is 1/4" thick with a stainless surround. I decided to use real glass instead of plexiglass since I always crack that crap when I cut it. Besides, my uncle has a truckload of glass panes. Anyways, the glass was vibrating with the sub, which was what the droning sound was. I was just really tired and didn't think to check the glass. Once again, thanks for your help!
