I made it just past 100K, but it really sucked when it finally went.

It was a Friday on my way to work, just before a holiday weekend. So this meant that no garage would even look at it, let alone fix it till Tuesday. I couldn't replace it while I was at work, and needed my car for Saturday AM.

I finally had to tow it to my mechanic (cost $80), and then have him replace it (additional unnecessay labor cost).

You can replace this on your own, and should probably do it as a precaution, because it sucks to be stuck and pay for it, especially if you need your car.

Its an easy project, and shouldn't take you too long. Plus, you can plan on it!

If you replace it you can avoid potential costly problems.

NAPA sells the Dura-pro (metal impeller) part # 125-1910, they run about $65.00.

It is a good durability upgrade and not too hard to do.

I just replaced mine with the NAPA one yesterday at 96k. The original one is the black plastic but still in perfect condition.

I'm still on the original on a 95 LX at 92k. Guess I should get going and replace it. I've pretty much flushed my radiator on a regular schedule so hopefully there's not too much rust in there. Also with the automatic, I'm thinking it doesn't rev up as much as a 5 speed and I've been taking it easier lately.

It's not the revs that get you. I don't EVER hit 4000 RPM (well, maybe once or twice) and my waterpump did the impeller split on me right about 55K miles. Then the replacement waterpump did a leak right about 85K miles. So this is the third pump so far...

I'd still be inclined to think that age plays a greater factor then mileage to some degree. I say this because my water pump impeller went at 40000miles on my 95. This was last Janruary. For the cost think of it as peace of mind doing it now. Cause it will go only at the most annoying time.

I had about 130,000 on the factory plastic impeller unit before it went out!

Congrats to all with big miles on 2.5L waterpumps. The pumps do fail, they are available for a great price right now. Easy durability mod.
