I just bought a 2000 contour svt and was looking for advice on what the quickest easiest performance mods are. I'm open to anything. Thanks

Welcome aboard.

Take a look at the FAQ and Mods/Parts

The Search should be your new best friend. Use it to search the various sections for respective mods.

There are plenty of threads discussing "first mods" such as this one

Quickest/easiet?
- remove hoodliner (if you have one)
- intake
- tint
- knauberize
- wax
- y-pipe
- exhaust
- etc.

Welcome Dan,

I was faced with the same question about a year ago when I bought a 98 SVT. Its a fun car stock, but as you will, or have seen, there are many mods available. I bought three items right off the bat: 1) Intake, Y-Pipe and Underdrive pully set. Due to purchasing a set of MSDS headers, I ditched the Y-pipe and am using the MSDS supplied one. I have also replaced the underdrive pulley set in favor of a DMD pulley. I think it is important to do two things before buying anything: 1) make a plan; decide how far do you want to go, what areas are important to you (i.e. engine, brakes, handling) and how soon do you want to implement the changes, and 2) how much do you want to spend. Post again with some more info, and I will give you me 2 cents.

The first thing you need to do is replace the factory waterpump with an aftermarket version that has the metal impellar. After that, install the Dual Mass Dampener (DMD). You may even want to consider an oil accumulator. Do the "preventive failure" mods first before bumping-up power output.

now i've got a couple questions:

why remove the hoodliner, it can't be for weight reduction

and

what's an oil accumulator (beyond 'something that accumulates oil')

Excellent advice! Make sure you make it last before you make it fast (er).

Optimized throttle=$2.00
Gutting precats=$10.00 for MIL eliminators. Some people swear by this mod, some people say its a waste of time. I'd search the forums for info/opinions before you do it.

yeah whats with all the water pumps going out? i read they suck!

It's BS! My car has 86k on is and the original pump, I'm not the only one either. Being used, your may already have been replaced. Just keep an eye on your temp gauge! FYI, It's not uncommon for water pumps to fail around 60K. The coolant system a high stress item. Just keep an eye on it!

Ok, take what mrspindlelegs said with a grain of salt.

They are good ideas, but overkill for the most part.
~There are plenty of people who have the stock water pump with high mailge with no problems whatsoever.
~Forget the oil accumulator - just put in a little more than 6 quarts of oil and you should be fine. AFAIK no one has had oil starvation running with 6 quart minimum.

The hoodliner keeps a lot of heat in the engine bay, removing it lets the engine stay a little cooler.
Plus it allows you to hear your engine and intake better.
