I have an Aiwa CDC-Mp3 HU and want to change the stock speakers out. I'll probably never amp the speakers seperately so I just need a good all around speaker that will provide decent Bass, mids, and highs. Listen to a lot of pop/Hip Hop stuff. Is it better to go with the same speakers in all 4 doors or go with mids and highs in the front and something with more bass in the rear? Are the round 6"-6.5" speakers better than the oblong 5x7's or 6x9's?Please help with any recomendations.

Your best bet would be to put 6x9s in the front and 6x8s in the rear. You can put 6x9s in all 4 doors but the rear doors require a little modifying.
Round speakers generally have better sound quality but the compromise in bass would not be worth it in your situation.

Any specific brand, not to bust anyone but Pioneer have always sounded a little tinny to me. Looking for something with a little backbone and depth.

I went with Infinity 510cs up front. Component set with 5 1/4 midrange. Guy did a sweet custom plate, for nothing.
Put Polk 5x7's in the back the middle one. But I also have 3 - 10's. So bass is not needed in my midrange.
Go component for the sound quality and get a small sub for the bass duties.

I would go with Infinity or Polk. JL Audio has had some positive feedback also. If it were my purchase, I would personally go with Polks.

with a high power deck i would put polk or infinity up front w a swivel tweeter and leave the rears but put a 100hz high pass filter on them.

This is aimed at Dave Newman!
How easy is it to fit 6x9s in the front doors??
I am considering 4 pioneer 6x8s all around, but since they are $50 more per pair than 6x9s, I would be glad to save some dough.
I don't want to do any serious mucking with the car, so if I can plug and play, I'm better off.

I've never personally done it, but according to quite a few members here, it is a matter of just drilling new holes. Anybody who has done this please feel free to chime in if I'm missing something.

6x9's in the front doors is no problem. All you have to do is just wire up and place in the new speaker and use some self-tapping screws (makes it alot easier) of about 1 1/2" long and drill in the the door frame and you'll be making new screw holes for that speaker.
I thing one would really inquire to do is put weatherstripping around the basket of the 6x9 because that can stop any/most rattles and also make it seat flush and airtight in the hole. I would also seal up the stock speaker bolt holes since they dont get used.
Remember one thing, if your going to run your mids/highs and run the speaker cables back to the trunk along with running subs as well, your best bet is to high-pass your fronts and rears (like 70-90hz) for a start off point. This will make your front and rears play really what they are meant too (midbass) and then you can play your subs loud and not worry about distortion from the other speakers. You can defintely make your system louder/cleaner with just simple tuning.
Power those fronts!! Head units just dont have enough power to make those Infinitys sing. Trust me.

I believe that Jazzman was interested in must changing the HU and the speakers. He wanted to avoid a sub/amp. I think...
