Ok I admitt I'm an idiot. How do you tell what frequency of sound to go to what speakers? Is this what a crossover does? Oh yeah I think I have decided on the Boston Acoustics RX87 speakers.

First of all, good choice on speakers...I always seem to forget about the Bostons.

A crossovers purpose is to send the freq to th right speakers. A Crossover should not be necessary considering you are not running a subwoofer.

Dave --

At this point you are correct. I don't believe that my taste in music requires a sub, nor do I want to use the trunk space and all of my money to do this.

Can someone tell me about the boston acoustics that Coors decided on? Are they available in Canada?

I had a pair of boston 6x9s from a few years back. At the time, the only better 6x9 on the market was the JBL 545. I generally really like BA speakers and as far as I know they are available in Canada. Their subs are, so I assume their full product line is available.

BAs are definitely worth a listen before making up your mind.

Well not yet anyway. I put a bid in on the Infinity Bass Link. We'll see what happens. With a sub, then should I run a crossover?

I'm guessing that the basslink will have the subwoofer crossover. You could add some bassblockers to the doors to cut the bass from them. A seperate crossover is probably not worth it at this point. If you start getting into a multi amp system, you will definitely need one.

I'm sure you'll hear this a dozen more times but he Bosotn Acoustics are good speakers. I had the 5X7 in my front doors and they sounded good. Now I have the 5 1/4" component set and they sound great.

I would have to suggest 6 1/2" speakers for the rear. Mount them toward the bottom of the 6X8 opening. The grill in the rear door is not centered over the opening in the door for the speaker. 6 1/2s will be pretty much directly behind the grill. I did this using Kenwood 2 ways, and I am happy with my install.
As for the 6X9s in the front. Not all 6X9s will fit in the front doors! I tried to install an old set of Sonys that I have, into the front door. Didn't work. They don't fit down into the 6x8 opening enough to allow me to put the door panel back on. I think it will all depend on the size of the "basket" on the speaker. I have JBL 5X7s 2 ways in the front. I really want to upgrade these though. I get a lot of vibration in these JBLs.
