I'm looking for input on the Nakamichi
CD-35Z. I know the 45Z has a lot more stuff on it, but I don't need a sub output and I don't plan on adding an additional amp. As far as the 20 bit D/A converter vs. a 1 bit, my ears won't hear the difference.
Will this play CDRs is my biggest question? The price is O.K. ($250) and it looks stock. Cheers, Rick.

The HU is not "certified" to play CD-R but people here who have the CD40Z and 45Z have had pretty good success. It's kind of a crap shoot, you may get unlucky but I think you should be reasonably safe.

If the 35Z performs as well as my 40Z, then I would say "Go for it."
I'd suggest you shop around some more as I'm certain you can get a 40Z for about what you were quoted on the 35Z.
Try www.soundhabit.com as they have the 35Z for $189.99 & the 40Z for $249.99.

I just bought a 40z two weeks ago for $299 at a local car audio shop.

The Nak manual states that it does not play cd-r's but it also states that there are 2 pick up lasers. 1 laser for manufactured CD's and 1 for CD-R's.. sounds like double talk to me. In any event every Nak I tried so far has played every CD-R I have, and it has not skipped yet, even on dirt roads and speed bumps.

The only thing that I do not like is there is no dim option that I can tell. since I had laser eye correction bright ligths at night hurt, and the radio could be a tad bit better at getting far stations. Other than that my non amped system sounds good.

Hope this helps.

Nak is a great choice I've had the 45Z in my car for awhile, one of the best sound head units for the money, only better in my opinon would be the Sony CDXC90 (which I will be getting hopefully in a few weeks). Just make sure you get the Green illumination as it comes in amber and green. You should also as stated in another post for less money around $225 from a local shop or even less online.
