Depends on the service and the technical specialty.

Army grunt Lts are out there elbow to elbow with their platoons, and are often the first ones killed in battle when they stand up and say "follow me."

"Sit behind a desk" = deal with all the bureucratic bs that rolls downhill and try to protect your people from it so they can get there shi_ done, survive, and accomplish the mission. Take it in the shorts when somebody above or below you drops the ball, etc. It can be a fun ride, but it's not the piece of cake it may look like.

You could get a degree first, look into ROTC programs and scholarships, or try for an academy, or enlist and take advantage of the GI Bill or tuition assistance programs.





In the military you are going to get your a** chewed a lot whatever you do. If you make rank and someone below you makes a mistake then you will get punished for the mistake. It will always be your fault no matter what.
