I am not sure if the story is true. I got it off an Air Force wives forum. As many of you know, I am an Air Force wife, and my hub was and still is active duty, been active duty since Feb 2001. Since then, he has been deployed to Saudi Arabia, and soon to Kuwait. He almost went to Afghanistan right after Sept 11. They realized they had too many ppl already going from his shop, so he didn't have to go. No biggie, but he was more than ready.
I know ppl sit there and go on about how the soldiers "knew when they joined there was a chance of war.....blah blah blah", but you know what's funny?? Those who sit there and say those things are NOT military, and have no intention of joining because they are whiney little babies without the balls to defend the very freedom they so love.
I am not saying anyone who doesn't join the military are whiney babies, but if you sit there and down the military for doing their jobs and act like it's nothing to go to a foreign country knowing they might not come home.... then you are a whiney baby.
Being in the military is nothing to scoff at. These are the ppl who are risking their lives for our freedom. Yes, they are whether you think this who thing in Iraq is or not, that's not even the point. In the oath these guys and gals take when they join, they say "Protect our country against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic". Even when they are stationed at a base here the US, they are still there to defend YOUR freedom when the need arises.
This is something I am reminded of every single day because I live on a military base. I go through the ID checks and gates every day. I see the men & women....some of them no older than 19, with M-16s and 9mm pistols, ready to put themselves in harm's way if someone attempts to run the gates of that base. So it's not just the ppl over in Iraq or Afghanistan that should ONLY be thought of. Don't forget the ppl still here in the US protecting the local bases.
