For all of you who just hate that ol' f##kin ford head unit read the below story..

I just installed a Nakamichi CD-40z into my SVT and the factory head unit was installed so badly that both the spring tabs on the left and right were bent behind the mount face in additon the top and the bottom of the case was warped (from the factory) preventing it's removal (every)from the car. 4 hours and a set of tin snips later... Needless to say the old head is a wreck. I was so pissed off I took the head to the rifle range.. 1/2 hour and a box of brass later I felt much better!!

But my vengance has no bounds this weekend I am going to Pittsburgh to visit my family and it turns out that Three Rivers Stadium is going to be blown up.. I made some calls to friends ex.. and you guessed it I am going to have that F##k S## of a B### in the building when it blows.. and I thought the Friday the 13th movies were over kill. If I can I will get some before and after photo's

It will never bother me again :-)

How is your Nakamichi CD-40z? Can the display dim with the dash lights? What kind of money do they get for this? I looked it up and I like the look of it. Will it play CD-Rs? Cheers, Rick.

Nak makes great HU that seem to play CD-Rs without hesitation. I would get the current model which is the CD-45Z, I believe. You should be able to find it for 270-300.

The alpine you mentioned in your other post has a negligibly better internal amp. The CD-45Z (or 40Z) have a cleaner look to them. SQ would be very similar as any other HU with similar features/price.

Woz, did you poop on the HU? if not, you may want to to make HonkeyTonk Monkey happy. He really likes pooping on those stock HUs.

I recommend eating a block of cheese the night before, then taking a huge log on the piece of sh!t, wrap it in a bow, the put it in the building. I threw my deck off a bridge into the river. I still have the stock speakers though, I plan on pooping on them and sending them to my ex. on valentine's day... the ugly hoe will probably think it's chocolates and eat them... dumb slut...

I would substitute the cheese for a jar of pickled eggs and some beer. It makes a particularly potent creation...

I was reading that story and it was like dejavu for me. I had exact same problem with the removal of my head unit. And exactly 4 hours later i whipped out the tin snips :P and then i put in my nakamichi 45z in there instead :P

dnewma04- The major differance between the Nak 40z $299 and the 45z $499 is that the 45z has much 8 one bit oversample(s)? I think and the 40z has only one. But to be honest I do not think that with road sound ex.. the differace makes the extra $200 not woth it. I listened to both side by side in the show room and there was a differance but I would have to get real hard core speakers all around to justify the $$$$.

Note: the 40z will not control an external CD player, but does have an auxilary in/out.

The 40z does not look to have a "DIM" option that I can tell? of but with the tint all around even on a bright day I can read the face, no problems.

The factory manual states that it does not read cd-r's but before i bought mine I shoved some of the worst (cheap / scratched) disks I had into it and no problems. No skipps even over speed bumps (fast)

The only problem I currenly have is I did not wire it correcly and when I turn the car off the memory is cleared. The installer told me to wire both the ACC and the Battery (head unit)to the battery (car) this does not look to be the case.. Any suggestions...???

Honkeytonk Monkey- I tried to shove it under my dog (115 lbs) when he was pooping and he kept moving away.. Sorry but I tried!

I think if you shop around on the net, you can find the 45z for 300-350.00. I would not recommend it over the 40Z at 500, but at 325.00 I would.

I'm actually shocked that you were able to hear a difference between them, you gotta have some good ears!

Did you get a wiring harness? That is by far the easiest way to go. It almost sounds like you connected both to a switched source and not the battery. Hooking them both directly to the battery would result in you having to physically turning the unit off or it would stay on constantly.

Good luck!

Damn dude that is the same thing that happened to mine at fry's. They thought I tampered with the factory HU when they installed my new 1. They had to break the factory HU to get it out.

hmmmmm I do recall the 'backing plate' on my factory head unit causing a bit of a delay in removal.
