I just bought a digital camera and will try to post some picts with the trashed old head. It very clearly shows that the spring like think's had to be cut to remove the old head.

I broke my cd player too. I was so angry at it for keeping one of my cd's and not playing anything but the radio for the entire half-hour drive home from work that I immediately removed the unit with a pocket screwdriver, breaking the face off in the process. I then ordered a Pioneer and had it in the car in about one week. I tossed the stock unit in the dumpster at work.

I just got my camera back and the phots were OK..

Nothing like a good pair of tin snips to remove a radio...

I hope the close up of the spring area is of any help. Since the spring was bent behing the face plate I had to cut (punch) the face off to get access to the spring and wedge the spring out. The right hand spring had to be cut.

P.S. If geocites does not find the links just reload the page, the url is correct. I guess thats what you get for free.

FWIW I watched the Ford tech remove the head unit from my car in less than one minute! They have a special tool they use. Tech said the radios are almost impossible to remove without said tool.

I got it out in two seconds. Just cut 2 wire coat hangers, bend them into 'u's, and push them into the holes. Now pull the away from each other and back towards you. It should just pop out.

Most auto parts stores like NAPA should have the u-shaped tools. Thats where I bought mine for use at work. Crutchfield also sent me a pair with my Pioneer head unit.

For those of you destroying you stock HUs, you may want to reconsider. After my recent accident, I had to replace the stock HU before I was allowed to get my Sony back.

Just thought that I would let you all know.

I still have my original cassette player in my garage, along with the wiring harness and stock speakers. I had bought a cd player, amp, and patch cable from someone on here, and the cd player was the one I destroyed.
