I live about 20 miles north of Chattanooga on Hwy 27, and its about 1.5 hours from here. Are you going up on Friday or Saturday?? If Saturday you can meet a few of us and ride up with us. I75 out of Chattanooga is a nightmare. If you are going up on Friday and go I75N go to exit 60 which is hwy 68 and turn right off the exit, go to hwy 411N in Madisonville, then hwy 72E above Vonore and it brings you in right at lake Chilhowee at the start of the Dragon.

thanks for the timeframe and directions - i'll check out that route on the map so i can visualize everything.
i'll be coming up on friday - estimating to be in chattanooga for an early lunch, meeting up w/ bigmoneyracing, and then heading up from there - sounds like we should be able to be in the dragon area by 1:30 or so; not too bad at all.

The road itself is fine. Tell her that semi's frequently travel it and that it received a major resurfacing just a couple of years ago. You'll be harder pressed to find a smoother surface to travel over.
The road itself isn't the problem. Using poor judgement and careless traffic from the other direction is. Gotta watch out for semis and yahoos. As long as you hug the inside on right turns and the outside on left ones, you'll have a little reserve in case. Also, no tailgating will be the rule of the day as if a semi does come through, you'll be stomping on the brakes and hitting reverse.

Oh yeah, anyone coming up through Madisonville or Vonore on 411, thats the best places to fuel up before hitting the Dragon. Gas is cheaper in TN than NC.
