well, sorry to hear that - should still be a good turnout, but it's always a shame to have folks bail out.

oh well - hope you can make it down for some other gathering or another...it's been quite a while since that dyno day that you and migalush came down to!

A friend of mine who owns a Subaru says that a Scooby owners group is planning on runnning the Dragon the same weekend as us (the nerve!). Supposedly upwards of 50 - 75 cars. Someone know of a Subaru message board to verify?

Looks like we can serve as the "pacecar" for the running of the Dragon. I'm just glad we got a place to stay, looks like the local economy is going to get a "boost", thats for sure BTW, how far are the gas stations from the area? I ask this because of the nearest car wash being 80 miles away and I don't want to run out of gas

A couple weeks ago I did the brakes to prepare for the Dragon, now I've finished the last step for my preperations, a fresh clay barring and 3 step This helps with the aerodynamics for better throttle response, fuel economy and "bling-bling" factor LOL! Its 2 weeks from tomorrow

There is a gas station at the end of the Dragon in NC. You pay the price for it though. I would say there are a few gas stations in Robbinsville NC. We'll have to swing the the Tail of The Dragon shop and say hi to Ron and Nancy, they run the tailofthedragon.com website and might give us some deals on some shirts and stuff.

What do you mean when you say "you pay the price", pertaining to the gas station at the end of the Dragon

Ok, enough of hijacking this thread...

Seems to me we'll have a lot of people going, which is not always good. A smaller group of cars are easier to follow and keep together, and means less chance of somebody doing something STUPID. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if the driving would get broken up into 2 or more groups. Since I and Simon are the ones that kinda got this started up, I don't want to be responsible for somebody I don't know. (sound like a mom there)

Can we get confirmation whether the Subaru meet is that same weekend?

Anyways, looks like our tour guide (Blorton) won't be able to make it after all...

I'll try to get info on all the 'other' roads there.

Since no Blorton, I'll prolly be the only one on two wheels. Hopefully there won't be too many leaves on the ground, and no rain...

Also, not to sound like a mom again, but if you wanna be in my group, I'm gonna lay down some laws before we head out anywhere.

I'm all about having fun out there JVT, but I too want to do it safe, so let me be the first to say I'm all for following the rules of the road Seeing that I'll have my wife with I can't get to carried away anyways, plus I don't know the road, so I have to follow the rules. Plus I don't want to get popped either I can bring my two way Motorola, if it will help things. I know I'd like to know my way around down there, maps or no maps!

Sorry guys, I'm gonna back out. The get-together is getting too big for my tastes and some of the chest-thumping makes me nervous.

Call it getting old or having a friend crash up there with me (while being stupid) a few months ago, but whatever the case, I'm a lot more conservative than I used to be in terms of who I ride/drive with.

Regarding the questions on locations of gas and whatnot.

If you stay in Tellico Plains as I recommend, there are plenty of gas stations around, one of which is open 24 hours a day and is a mini-mart(beer and food). There is also a small grocery store on that same main road that also sells beer.(Both are on the Skyway road on the other side from the TOTD, heading into Tellico Plains). The road that Caney Creek is on forms part of the loop that people take to tie the Skyway and TOTD together. Just make sure you fill up before leaving TP and you'll be fine. If you find yourself getting low and you are south of the dragon and already on the other side of the skyway, it's best to head south on 129 and tank up in Robbinsville.

This event really needs a sticky post at the top with a list of confirmed attendees and arrival times so people know what to expect. This stuff of "I'm bringing a buddy who might bring a couple of his buddies." isn't real helpful.

Oh, and good luck with the two-way radios. They didn't amount to squat last time because *some people* (cough cough) couldn't be bothered to roll up their windows and turn down the music so they can hear the thing while the rest of the group was trying to tell them they just blasted through a speed trap.

Cell phone service is fine in TP and Robbinsville, but spotty/non-existent everywhere else. Might not be a bad idea if someone brought a cb just in case, especially if you'll be crossing the skyway at night. The last time I crossed it at night, I didn't see a single vehicle coming the other way.

Have a great time!
Dan
