Alrighty, the better place to stay that I alluded to still has a number of vacancies for that weekend. These are somewhat upscale cabins located in Tellico Plains, which is on the other side of the Skyway from the Dragon. It's not a dry county and is much quieter and nicer than the san ran or microtel. Works out cheaper too for people splitting up a cabin. Security is also better due to the remoteness and ability to hear anyone driving in.
The place is Caney Creek village and their web site is:
Caney Creek I split a cabin there with a couple of friends in May, and they are very nice. Full kitchens, cold a/c, satellite tv(hint hint, Blake) and a much better setup for socializing. The larger cabins have wraparound decks and there's plenty of open area to enjoy.
I stayed in the $90/nite one, and it has two bedrooms as well as a fold-out futon in the living room.
Anyone else interested in staying over there instead of in Robbinsville? I'll probably go for a single bed cabin if no one wants to split one. I'm not trying to bust up any already made plans, but this place seriously is much better than trying to find a parking place in a motel with glasspacked monster trucks cruising up and down the highway out front all night.
Also, as part of the attendance sheet, we need to keep track of when people are expecting to arrive. Folks that are coming on Saturday as opposed to Friday need to decide on a meeting place and time so that those already there know where to be.
I expect that the people arriving on Friday may be up and out early Saturday, so meeting at the CRoT or somesuch might be better for the late arrivals if it happens around noonish.
One other thing, since the topic has been brought up. I've been asked to lead the procession since I play up there frequently. I'm happy to do so, but want to stress that a larger group will not have as much fun due to traffic issues and frequent needs to pass tourists. 30 cars bombing along also tends to attract more LEO attention.
If you really want to enjoy these roads, you've got to do them on a weekday.
Just some suggestions...
