To remove the valve cover all you need is a 8mm socket, 5/16 extended socket, and if it is the first time removing the valve cover maybe a pry bar.

I'd say spark plugs, but you don't HAVE to remove them. Not a bad idea to take 'em out and check condition & gap, though.

For the rear bolt on the valve cover that holds the wire for the VCT harness.
