You're still not getting it.
You go to the drag strip to get the fastest times possible. On the street you'd have your spare tire, subs, etc. in the car but most people remove these at the track. Same things goes for the hood. Though not everybody is going to do that and that's OK. So basically if removing something is stupid to do to get better times, then it's stupid to modify the car at all.

It's stupid to run at the drag strip with a street car.

Maybe one day you'll get it when you're racing for cash prizes (heads up) and get beat by somebody that took the time to remove weight AT THE TRACK.
And though this might not go for every car, I'm guessing he'd have better 1/4 mile times than stock w/o hood. I seriously wind turbulence would slow him down enough to overcome that 3/10 of a sec loss. I think you may just be jealous that his car is faster than your's.
