Originally posted by Kremithefrog: Hood came off at the track and went back on at the track. Same as removing spare tire, subs, etc. It dropped his 1/8 mile time by 3/10 of a second. And if that equals 15.2 1/4 mile than that's pretty good, since stock they run 15.4 to 15.7. Why take a contour, etc. to the drag strip? To get fast times. The contour is no drag car by any means. It's like saying why add a turbo to a contour. Since no FWD street car will be a real drag car. Why do people buy different intakes for their contours, on a duratec, a different intake wouldn't drop your 1/8 mile time by 3/10 of a second.
You're still not getting it.
Removing parts of the body in order to gain performance from a street car is a bit rediculous. Removing a hood is not something you effectively can run on the street. If he ever went to the 1/4 mile track, he'd be slower due to the massive amount of wind resistance and turbulence caused by not running hood. I'm sure your ricer friend doesn't realize that though. Why does he stop at the hood? Why not take off the front fenders, front and rear bumper covers, trunk lid, bumper reinforcements, trunk lid/spoiler, and seats? That's about 180lbs he could remove from the car in about an hour and will definately improve his timeslip (probably 14.8s). Or is that just a little bit rediculous?
